We are so excited to welcome Janine Miller to the Saline County Library! She will be our new Library Manager over the Bob Herzfeld branch. 

Janine is formerly the Windsor Branch Manager for the Fort Smith Public Library. She has also been with the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library! Here are a few more fun facts about Janine:

Book: Alcatraz vs. The Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson. I read this book when I was in graduate school for a class, and I absolutely loved it. I love how it is written, and that it takes readers on an adventure that defies the general outlook of what librarians are and the role they play. Who knew that maybe, just maybe…librarians could be the villain. 

TV Show: The Downton Abbey series. I am a big fan of Downton Abbey. My favorite character is Dowager, she keeps things very lively with her one-liners. I am thrilled about the movie that will be released later this year!

CD: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks – Rebecca Skloot. I just finished listening to this audiobook about Henrietta Lacks. I was amazed to learn about how Henrietta Lacks tissue cultures from cancer have lived through decades and how many advancements through science made through vaccinations, cancer research, space exploration, etc. Her tissue cultures have affected each of our lives in some way or another. 

Share one thing that you love to do that you get to do nearly every day.

The one thing that I love to do that I get to do every day is be a mother to my 2-year-old son, Valton. Valton is a joy to be around, and watching him grow and develop has been absolutely amazing. 

If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what animal would you choose and why?

I think I would have to say that I would like to be a lion. I have always been fascinated with lions, how they think, how they move and how they hunt their prey. 

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

Travel to Dubai, hike Pinnacle Mountain and visit the Smithsonian. 

What is the most important personal attribute that you bring to your job?

I think that the most important personal attribute that I can bring to my job is to be well-rounded and open-minded. I have always had the ability to connect with people on any level.
