Free Halloween events are wicked this way comes! 🎃 We’ve got a SPOOKY amount of fun for all ages headed your way! You don’t need a library card to attend, but don’t you know you can check out the scariest books, movies, and more with your library card!? If you don’t have a library card, register today!

Costume Closet

  • Where: All Library Branches
  • When: All of October

Saline County Library’s annual Costume Closet is open for business today, starting at 9:00 AM on Thursday, October 1st! 🎃 🎉 It will stay open until October 31, or until we run out of costumes.

Costumes are available on a first come, first served basis at all library branches. We have a variety of sizes and styles for all ages! Limit of one costume per person. All costumes are FREE, and you don’t need to return them after Halloween! When you check out a costume, you will simply return the hanger upon checkout and that item is yours.

Costumes are expected to go fast and we can’t place reserves or holds for you, so come to the library early for a wider selection. 💀 What are you waiting for!? Come visit us and get ready for the season!

Family Craft Night: No Carve Decorating

  • Where: Benton Makerspace
  • When: craft night on Tuesday October 9 at 5:30 PM; submit your pumpkins any time before October 19 to be in the contest (see below)

Drop by the Benton Makerspace and pick up a pumpkin to decorate on Tuesday October 9 at 5:30 PM! (While supplies last.) Then, enter your creation into our contest to win a prize! Or decorate at home and enter by the deadline of October 19. Pumpkins can be entered from October 9th â€“ October 19, and public voting runs from Monday, October 21-st –Saturday, November 2nd, with displays of pumpkins at each of the three Saline County library branches. The winners will be announced Monday, November 4th.

No Carve Pumpkin Decorating Contest

  • Where: All library branches
  • When: Deadline to enter: October 19. Voting: Monday, October 21st – Saturday, November 2nd. Winners announced: Monday, November 4th

Drop your decorated, uncarved pumpkin off at the library by Saturday, October 19th to be entered in our annual pumpkin decorating contest for the chance to win a prize! Patrons are encouraged to attend the Family Craft Night at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton on October 9th to decorate a pumpkin using the library’s supplies, with the guidance of our Makerspace specialists. Pumpkins will also be provided to families while supplies last. Pumpkins will be on display at each branch and voting will run Monday, October 21st – Saturday, November 2nd. Winners will be announced Monday, November 4th.

Terrifying Trivia Night

  • Where: U.S Pizza in Bryant
  • When: Tuesday October 15 at 7:00 PM

Know the ins and outs of horror cinema? The factoids about everything creepy?🍕 Drop by U.S Pizza in Bryant on Tuesday October 15 at 7:00 PM for a bite to eat and a trivia game sure to shake you to your bones! (Attendees responsible for paying for their own pizza pies.)

AND, Show up in your Halloween costume and you could take home a prize! Awards will go out for: The Winning Trivia Team, Best Team Costume, and Best Individual Costume.

Movie Night in the Park: Nightmare Before Christmas

  • When: Friday October 18 at 6:30 PM

Join us and your favorite thoughtful skeleton man at Mills Park for a truly frightful holiday adventure! Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. We’ll have some snacks ready for showtime at sundown, approximately 6:30 PM on Friday October 18!

Spooky Movie Marathon

  • Where: Bryant branch
  • When: October 19 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

On Saturday October 19 in Bryant, from 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM we’ll have a marathon to make you shiver in your bones! During the movie, snacks will be provided as well as a themed Halloween arts and crafts project.

(Not Very) Spooky Storytime

  • Where: Benton branch
  • When: Friday October 25 at 10:30 AM

Do you sleep with the light on? Do you need extra teddies to help protect you from the monsters? It’s okay – we’ve got the storytime just for you, with only the smallest dose of Halloween! Come in your Halloween Costume on Friday October 25 at 10:30 AM and join in on the (not very) scary fun! There might even be some candy for you at the Youth Services desk.

Trunk or Treat

  • Where: Benton parking lot
  • When: October 26th from 10:00 AM – 12:00

Wear your spookiest costumes, visit with librarians and library staff, and play yard games, and of course… collect spine-chillingly delcious candy. The event kicks off at October 26th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM in Benton with a public storytime in the parking lot, followed by trick or treating and games!

Candy Kingdom

  • Where: East End branch
  • When: week of October 28 – November 1

The East End Library Branch has been transformed into Candy Kingdom! For the week of October 28 – November 1, all ages are invited to drop in and play at newly transformed library. Visit with Queen Candy and her friends, Bubblegum Bubbles and Lady Licorice, and travel through the lands of candy to earn a tasty prize!

Short, Scary Stories

  • Where: East End branch
  • When: Every Tuesday in October

On Tuesdays throughout the month of October, The East End Branch Library will feature a program from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM geared at writers of all ages. Explore and learn about different styles of flash fiction writing each week, writing your very own short, short scary stories!
