Cinguain Poems
Let’s try writing a Cinquain today. This is a super fun poem that is only five lines long and describes a person. It’s kind of like a miniature biography.
To begin, spend a few moments brainstorming about our person.
Character name:
What is their job?
Who are they?
Brainstorm description words; think about appearance and personality words.
Brain storm actions; what do they do? Try to make these 3-word descriptions
Brainstorm emotion words
Now that you’ve got some ideas let’s try putting our poem together!
Here is an example:
Mom
Helpful, caring
Loves to garden
Excitable, likes satisfying people
Teacher
Here is the format for a Cinquain:
Cinquains have five lines
Line 1: Title (noun) – 1 word
Line 2: Description – 2 words
Line 3: Action – 3 words
Line 4: Feeling (phrase) – 4 words
Line 5: Title (synonym for the title) – 1 word
Now you try! Can you write a Cinquain for everyone in your family? Can you write one for your favorite book character?
