The Seed Library Grows!
From January now through our last month of August, the Saline County Library has been offering patrons it’s 2024 Seed Library. We think the program was a big hit with the community… and we’ve got the stats to prove it! So, before we say goodbye to this year’s gardening season, let’s review:
Seed packs given: 12,295 packs
Number of patron requests: 2,459 patrons requested seeds with an average of around 350-400 orders each month. Of those 33 members were super-gardeners who requested consecutively every month. Our most popular time was April, with 486 orders!
Donations received: We had around 30 donations from our Seed Library members, Healing Waters, and Sardis United Methodist Church, and Eden Brothers. (Several were large donations!) We want to thank all of them for their help in kickstarting the Seed Library and supporting our community.
Total number of members: 1,819
New members: 564 new members joined this year!
Facebook group: We have 313 members in our Facebook group.
Top 5 popular picks: Basil, sunflower, tomato, spinach, and carrot.
Some other cool facts… Our 3rd Annual Plant swap had more people than ever…. Over 50!
We also planted a number of gardens across town with seeds from the Seed Library program, including the park garden at Sunset Lake, Benton Street Department HQ, and the Straw Bale garden at the Benton Branch. You should give them a visit before fall comes around!
Thank you to everyone who made this year’s Seed Library fantastic. Without you, we could not continue to grow and thrive.
Make sure to grab your seeds during our last month of the 2024 program… and see you next year~!
