What is LCSUM?

Grab your mask and cape and gear up for an awesome month! Starting September 1st, libraries across the country celebrate Library Card Sign Up Month, (or LCSUM) showcasing the variety of books, digital resources, and programs available at your local library for free.

Each library celebrates differently. This year, The Saline County Library is partnering with tons of local businesses to bring YOU the POWER OF THE CARD. A library card is not just a card- it’s a superpower that can help you enhance your skills, broaden your horizons, and improve your job prospects. With this card, you can access passport services, educational and entertaining programs, video games, and a treasure trove of books and audiobooks.

But in September, your superpower is superCHARGED. Businesses from all over Saline County are offering great discounts to customers. All you have to do is present your library card and you’ll unlock SUPERPOWERS! (Scroll below for the full list of participating businesses and the discounts they offer!)

LCSUM Bingo

But wait… there’s MORE! Be a superhero and support multiple local Saline County businesses and you’ll check off squares on your BINGO CARD. For the month of September, we’ll be running a Library Card Sign Up month Bingo with prizes for 1, 2, or 3 BINGOs.

The library will also be hosting five FREE “out-of-the-library” events to attend. Please keep an eye out on our social media and newsletter for any changes or cancellations:

Encanto Movie Night
Saturday, September 7th at Mills Park. 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
Before the movie showing at 8:00 PM, there will be a number of yard games, and patrons can sign up for a library card. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, as seating options are limited and are first come first serve. The movie being screened at this showing is Disney’s “Encanto.” Hot dogs and chips will be provided by Bryant Rotary Club.
Harry Potter Trivia Night
Tuesday, September 10th at US Pizza in Bryant. 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM.
Come dress in your best wizard robes for trivia night with the theme of “Harry Potter.” Show off your wizardry knowledge while having a magical meal at US Pizza. (Costumers are responsible for paying for their own meal, and with a library card are eligible for a 10% discount.)
Moana Movie Night
Saturday, September 14th at Tyndall Park. 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
Before the movie showing at 8:00 PM, there will be a number of yard games, and patrons can sign up for a library card. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, as seating options are limited and are first come first serve. The movie being screened at this showing is Disney’s “Moana.” Hot dogs and chips will be provided by Bryant Rotary Club.
Table Top Roleplaying Game Night
Saturday, September 21st at Archangel. 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
We’ve got the dice, bring your imagination and quest-loving spirit! The Saline County Library will run a number of table top roleplaying games for players, including Dungeons & Dragons, Vampire: The Masquerade, Free League, Delta Green, and more. Sign up is required before the event day as seats are limited. Patrons can sign up via starting September 1st.
Mystery Night & Fundraiser
September 23rd at Larry’s Pizza. 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Solve a murder mystery or a family-friendly mystery while snacking on a pizza pie! Getting to the bottom of the case for a good cause: this event is a fundraiser with 10% of the proceeds for The Saline County Library. (The library will provide the mystery but customers are responsible for paying for food, and with a library card customers are eligible for a free drink with their meal.)
